Interesting that you're thinking about the market BEFORE you write a book. That's actually a good thing. As you begin to write, pass out chapters to your market and see if they like what you've got. This is called "market research.'

Mostly I've heard, and agree with, the idea that you should write what you are passionate about. Or, write what you love to read.

Once you've written a book that you love, then you can take it to market and sell. You can create the buzz for your book by actively marketing. (Lots and lots of good books on this topic.)

But first you have to have the plot and characters. I mean, it's not like JK Rowling decided there was a market for her story, she wrote it and people loved it. You've probably heard the story of Rocky: it was rejected time and time again. Stalone was at rock bottom when it was finally sold (it's a great story).

Write that amazing book, tell the world about it (not quite as easy as it sounds but you can do it!), and keep me posted!
References :
award winning YA (non-fiction) author!

If you want to come up with ideas for Young Adult books you should read a lot of Young Adult fiction. It's the best way to research. Young Adult fiction contains everything from vampire love stories to stories about inner city gangs.

You sound really cocky. I mean if you could write twice as well as all the published authors out there you'd be famous already.
