The association with people and animals in their mountain setting gives the participants a sense of purpose that few understand today.
Film makers are drawn to the story line of a young boy spending the days of his youth playing and hunting with the Flathead Indians, working as a cowboy and rancher with his dad on the Petty Creek Ranch, rounding up wild horses in the mountains and breaking them, as an outfitter taking groups of men into the mountains hunting for elk, and as a logger clearing wild tracks of virgin timber.
This rugged life of order, adventure, survival and community ends with Roger losing his battle with the Forest Service and having to give up outfitting and with his dad having to sell the familys ranch to a logging corporation. In a very painful manner, a way of life is destroyed and Roger Longpre struggles to find his way in the new world.
